Grasshopper
Grasshopper
Grasshopper

Most grasshoppers have large wings, but instead of flying away when threatened, they tend to jump away using their powerful hind legs. Many adult males rub their legs together to produce loud noise. There are more than  25,000 species.Grasshoppers have antennae that are generally shorter than their body. They also have pinchers or mandibles that cut and tear off food.Grasshoppers prefer to eat grasses, leaves and cereal crops.
In certain countries, grasshoppers are eaten as a good source of protein. They are usually collected at dusk, using lamps or electric lighting, in sweep nets. Sometimes they are placed in water for 24 hours, after which they can be boiled or eaten raw, sun-dried, fried, flavoured with spices, such as garlic, onions, chile, drenched in lime, and used in soup or as a filling for various dishes. They are abundant in Central and Southern Mexican food and street markets.
Many species are adapted to green fields and forests, and blend in well there to avoid predators. Others have adapted to drier, sandy environments and blend in well with the colors of dry dirt and sand.
Locusts
Locusts
Locusts

Locusts can breed rapidly under suitable conditions. Under suitable conditions they come together to feed. This stimulates them to release scent chemicals which cause them to fly together. Large swarms, of up to 10 billion individuals can strip fields of crops within hours. The adults are powerful fliers; they can travel great distances, consuming practically all green material wherever the swarm settles.Locusts are edible insects and are considered a delicacy in some countries. On swarming they are known to produce a toxin that renders them inedible and causes a skin reaction in sunlight.
There is no consistent distinction between locust and grasshopper species; except for the fact that grasshoppers have short feelers, or antennae. The grasshoppers are green but locusts can be off various colors.
